Viticulture
is a very ancient speciality of the estate. In 16th. century
fearing the competition of Bergerac wines, including those from
the estate, Bordeaux merchants prevented despatch of the wines by
blocking the barges loaded with barrels of Libourne.
In
18th century, the Péchaurieux white wines (red was also produced)
were each year exported to the Netherlands and England.
Nowadays
viticulture has evolved well. One space between rows is sown with
grass, the other is weeded. In this way, the earth is never bare,
lifeless, or eroded by the rainfall, but recovers due to the grass
which is regularly cut and enriches the soil (worms and bacteria)
then weeded and ploughed in, burying the organic matter.
